Malaga – all decked out for the holidays

The first weekend of December, I was for the first time in Malaga, Spain – in the country’s beautiful Andalucia region.

It was great to see the city decked out with Christmas decorations on all its streets, palm trees and orange trees, adding a festive spirit to the nightly movida.

Although I have traveled a fair bit in the region of Andalucia, I have never before been to Malaga.

It was a nice surprise, and wonderful to explore this seaside town with glorious weather – and evenings filled with twinkling lights on all the twisting streets of the city’s historical center.

I managed to see lots during my visit – including great views from the top of the cathedral (photo here above) and visits to the castle ruin and the Moorish fortress from the time of Arab reign over the region. I also visited the art museum of the town’s most famous native son – Pablo Picasso.

I’ll write about all of those on future posts.

But after long days of sightseeing, it was such a pleasant way to brighten those shorter, winter days by wandering around the holiday-illuminated streets and plazas.

I would have enjoyed Malaga reardless, but all the holiday decorations helped put me in the Christmasy mood during my wonderful stay in this glittering Mediterranean coastal town.
