One night in Tolentino, Marche
It wouldn’t be summer for me without a healthy does of Track Tourism…
Yes, it’s true I’m driving my son all over the Italian peninssula for his track races. But it’s Italy, so I’m always discovering new (beautiful) places.
The latest discovery for me was the inland town in Italy’s Marche region – Tolentino.
Almost the entire day was spent on the track, and since it’s about a three hour trip back to Rome, we had limited time to actually see the small town at night before we headed back on the long trip home.
Tolentino was a small but pleasant hilltown, not exactly hopping on a Sunday night, but we were able to find a restaurant that agreed to serve us before closing for the night.
The history of Tolentino stretches back to Ancient Rome. The town developed more extensively during the medieval era.
History buffs may know Tolentino for its Treaty of Tolentino, signed in 1797 between the rising French General Napoleon Bonaparte and the Papal States, which led to the subsequent invasion of Italy.
Today, the town is far more peaceful, and boasts Italian industry, like the leather furniture maker Poltrona Frau.
I know you’re dying to see the track, so here it is…
All in all, a pleasant hilltown to explore in the interior region of the Marche.
We enjoyed our (brief) stay in Tolentino.
