Having lunch in Columbus’ North Market

Although I’d been a few times to Columbus, Ohio, I never managed to get to its North Market before last summer.

This past summer, we were staying in the Short North area of the city, and the North Market made an easy location to stop by for a quick lunch.

It’s a busy location, with plenty of food options, and tables to sit and enjoy your meal – and people watching.

The original North Market was built on this site in 1876. Around the time, North Market was built as the second of four city markets. These popular urban markets were places where local farms could sell their produce to city dwellers.

The historic market burnt down in 1948, and a simpler structure replaced it, until city planners decided to recreate the historic market in the 1990s.

Today, it appears to have thriving business and lots of foot traffic. If you’re in downtown Columbus, it’s a great place to stop by and browse, or to stop and rest your weary feet with lunch from one of then many vendors.

Glad we finally managed to get here.
