A timeless tradition – Vienna’s Lipizzaner horses

Many, many years ago, I had the good luck to live just under one year in one of my favorite cities – Vienna. Before that time and since, I’ve been on numerous visits to Austria’s capital city.

Walking around Vienna’s charming pedestrian streets and admiring its Jugenstil architecture never fails to put a smile on my face. It’s a city full of traditions. There are the museums, the theatre, the Opera and the classical music at the Musikvereinssaal. And I’m always happy to stop in Vienna’s lovely turn of the century cafés to drink a coffee, read the papers, and enjoy the sinful desserts.

One not-to-be missed tradition unique to this city is viewing a performance of the Lipizzaner horses and their skilled riders at the Spanish Riding School. I wrote about it for a post in ‘Writing Horseback’.

Enjoy a performance on your next visit to beautiful Vienna.
