Missed cherry blossom season in DC – but caught them in New York!
In a country as vast as America, you can take advantage of varying climates during your travels.
On a recent stay in Washington, DC, I knew I wouldn’t hit peak cherry blossom season, but I didn’t realize high winds blew away all the pretty blossoms. I walked the entire stretch of the Tidal Basin, but did not find even one blossom still on the trees.

I know all about ephemeral beauty – especially for these delicate blossoms, but I was still disappointed, since I’d seen images from a week earlier that were absolutely stunning.
But I was thrilled to get a second chance. I travelled up to New York City, where the cherry blossoms were absolutely gorgeous.

The cherry blossoms skirting the Reservoir in Central Park were spectacular, and I felt fortunate to be able to admire all that beauty.
No matter how many times you’ve enjoyed cherry blossom season, it’s always worth visiting again. Those stunning pink blooms, the wonder on visitors’ faces.
When my son and I were passing the cherry blossoms on a warm Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of picnic blankets spread out and people enjoying the blooms and taking photos amongst the pink petals.

So, while I was sorry to miss out on the DC blosssoms, I was so grateful to see those same cherry blossoms in bloom in gorgeous Central Park while in New York.
Mission accomplished!
