Zurich’s beautiful Christmas markets

Last December, my husband and I visited Zurich, Switzerland. It was early December, and the Christmas markets had just been set up.

I adore the Christmas markets of northern Europe. I’ve lived in cities in northern Europe and always enjoyed the atmosphere of this season. Although you’ll rarely hear me complaining about Rome, the beautiful city where I live, I do have to say I don’t feel the Christmas vibes like I do at  northern European markets with a steaming cup of Gluehwein in my hands.

And yes, in Switzerland, the lovely smell of Gluehwein (mulled wine) permeated every Christmas market.

There were plenty of markets in the Swiss city, both outside and in the main hall of the spectacular Zurich train station.

We did plenty of walking and sightseeing during our stay, so it was fun to stop off and warm ourselves in these sparkling market places, with their music, chattering crowds, towering Christmas trees, mullled wine and cheerful lights.

My long-suffering hsband may have grown tired to being dragged to the umpteenth Christmas market during our stay, but I knew I had to squeeze it all in, since our stay in Christkindlmarkt country was limited.

Very pleased to have goten my fill of Christmas markets – and Gluehwein – during my time in Switzerland.
