Tuscan beaches

Discovering new beaches is always fun…

This summer, we had my son’s national track championships up in Grosseto, Italy, and the heat led us to carving ina  little beach time.

Some of that we spent on the wide beaches of Marina di Grosseto, just a few kilometers from the medieval hilltown.

The other beach was a stop-off on our drive back to Rome.

My son had just run with his team on a 4×400 meter race under the hot noontime sun. After a spectacular race (fifth in Italy U20!), he was ready for a cooldown in the tempting waves.

This was a great discovery near the Costiera argentaria – a small beach where lots of driftwood washes up to shore. It can be reached by a short path through a pine forest thick with the sound of cicacadas. We could still hear them clearly on the beach.

The water was perfect – warm and luxurious, and we spent lots of time lounging on that pretty beach – with views over a medieval coastal watchtower that once guraded against Saracen and Ottoman invasions.

You can’t go wrong exploring all the artistic and cultural wonders Tuscany has to offer … and then ending your day with a lazy visit to the beach.
