Training it along the “English Riviera”

This past autumn, I traveled to Devon, UK for the Historical Novel Society conference.

Flying in to Exeter, I took a bus to the train station, and then embarked on a trip down to the Devon coastline – also known as England’s Riviera.

I nabbed a coastline window so I could catch views of the quaint towns and dramatic coasts. But sadly, the English weather was having none of it.

It was already remarkably chilly for the start of September, but the whole train trip took place under blinding rain. So my first view of the Devon coast was decidely un-Rivieraish.

Luckily, the weather improved during my stay, and it went to only spatterings of rain showers, mixed with sun throughout the days.

I was staying on the coast, in Peignton, but spent little time there, most of my time was spent at the conference’s spectacular venue of Dartington Hall. I’ve also written about my stop off in postcard-perfect Totnes.

On my return trip to the airport, the weather was good and I got to enjoy those impressive coastal views. This would definitely be worth returning in the summer time to explore those adorable towns and to walk the dramatic coastline.

Bathing might be optional after so many years of being spoiled by warm Mediterranean waves. : )

I enjoyed my brief time in Devon, and am so pleased I did get one day of railing the pretty coastline under clear skies.
