Enjoying fall foliage on an Abruzzo getaway

I was in desperate need for a weekend get-away out in the mountains, and so was my son.

The weather forecasts were perfect, and we decided to take a short get-away to our favorite mountain hamlet in Abruzzo – Ovindoli.

It was exactly what we needed: fresh mountain air, long walks, fall foliage, and fantastic food.

We’ve been meaning to get out here for a while, so we were glad we finally managed to make the trip … even if far too brief.

We weren’t the only ones to have this great idea, so the mountains were humming with other city visitors. But the more, the merrier.

There were plenty of trails for all of us.

And yes, the restaurants were busy, but we still managed to get places and enjoy everything on offer. Hiking works up the appetite!

I’m back in the city now, but that perfect mountain escape is still often in my mind…
