A stroll through Wheeling, West Virginia’s Woodsdale–Edgewood neighborhood

In my last post, I wrote about my visit to Wheeling, West Virginia. In addition to seeing the center of the city and having dinner with a panoramic view of the Ohio River and the coal barges passing by, we also took a nice stroll through the Woodsdale-Edgewood historic district.

This district is on the outskirts of Wheeling, where our hotel was located.

The Woodsdale-Edgewood neighborhood was built between 1888-1945, consisting of over 900 distinct homes in various Victorian styles.

It was a warm summer day on our visit, and our early morning walk through this pleasant neighborhood was enjoyable.

This neighborhood was classified in 1997 on the National Register of Historical Places.

We had a long drive before us that day, so stretching our legs on this morning walk was a nice way to anticipate the drive.

We also noticed a large number of University of West Virginia football signs (see my earlier post on that campus and its college town), so you may want to ensure you’re not wearing rival team apparel when you’re passing through this neighborhood.

Otherwise, enjoy your exploration of the pretty homes of Wheeling’s Woodsdale-Edgewood neighborhood.

It was. I always love Victorian homes – definitely a great place for a stroll if you’re passing through (as we were).
