Vienna under the snow

This past week, I had a wonderful, long weekend in Vienna.

On my last day, I also had the chance to see Vienna coated in magical white, thanks to hours-long snow. It managed to make the city look magical, but stopped by later afternoon, making my trip to the airport easy and not delaying flights. My kind of snowstorm!

Vienna is such a beautiful and romantic city, so it was great to see it in the snow.

I walked through the center on my last day, enjoying the snow accumulating on the Maria Theresa statue, on the Art and Natural History Museums, on Heldenplatz and Kohlmarkt and at Cafe Central.

I stood with the crowds outside of Cafe Central, waiting to get in to warm up and dry off, while enjoying the foot and decadent desserts. There was something magical about waiting in the snow, with big flakes drifting down.

Soon after I left the cafe, the snow stopped, so I could enjoy the city dusted in white for the rest of my walk before it was time to head off to the airport.

Although I grew up with (lots and lots of) snow, we rarely get it in Rome, so I enjoyed the exoticism of it – especially in a city as beautiful as Vienna. A perfect end to my lovely Viennese weekend!
