The wonderful Cité du vin, in Bordeaux
I had a wonderful time on my recent trip to Bordeaux, France.
There was so much to enjoy about this city, but one can’t visit Bordeaux without learning about one of its most important industries – fine wines.

Luckily, there’s a fabulous museum you can visit to learn all about wine – Bordeaux’ Cité du vin.
It’s a little out of the city center, but easiy to reach with Bordeaux’ efficient and ominpresent tram lines, making it an easy voyage from the historic center. If you pick up the handy Bordeaux city card, it’s one of the numerous museums and attractions included in the price, making it a bargain.

There’s so much to love about the musuems, from a history of wine to how wine crops have developed around the world today, and how different microclimates and terroirs result in a diversity of wine around the globe.
There are interesting films and exhibitions about wine production over the centuries, and, of course, an emphasis on the importance of wine production and wine trade in the region of Bordeaux.
There was also a fun, ineteractive “dinner party” exhibit.

And, to end the visit off right, there was a wine tasting on the top floor, with lovely views over the Garonne River. You could choose between a wide variety of wines from France, Italy, California, Hungary, Georgia, Chile and more.
But, as a staunch believer of context drinking, I chose a local wine. The perfect ending to a full and informative museum afternoon.
