Met Rooftop – Summer 2024

I’m a member at the wonderful New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I always love passing by to see the latest exhibitions and visiting my favorite wings, whenever I am back in NY.

And, when I’m there in summer, I always stop off to see the installation art on The Met’s spectacular rooftop terrace.

Unfortunately, rooftop access is only seasonal, so usually from late spring (usually end April) through October. But since I’m often there in summer, it’s easy to stop by to enjoy it.

And these views make it very easy to enjoy it.

Each year, a different artist is selected to be featured.

The summer 2024 Rooftop exhibition commissioned Kosovar artist Petrit Halilaj (born in 1986 in the former Yugoslavia) for this outdoor space.

Halilaj’s installation art was entitled Abetare and the artist descrbed it as art blending the line between reality and fantasy, and doing so through the use of whimsical scribbles created by young children.

This worked pretty well for the spaceon the rooftop. My older son and I enjoyed visiting and glimpsing the skyscrapres through the squiggly lines of metal.

The Rooftop views from this perch over Central Park make a stop up to the terrace something to not miss during your visit.

And we made the day better by stopping by the Balcony Lounge for cocktails after revisiting some of our favorite art.
