Weekend bliss in the mountains of Abruzzo

I always love trips out to the mountains, but this year, I was having a tough time managing a weekend mountain escape.

But the first weekend of July, I did manage to hop out for a short visit in Italy’s Apennine mountains, and it was glorious.

I often go out to Italy’s Abruzzo region, to the small town of Ovindoli.

The weather was good, and we had the chance to take long mountain walks, and to breathe in all that great mountain air, and to feel all the stress of daily life and deadlines seep far, far away.

It was quite chilly in the evenings, so I had to dig out some long-sleeve shirts I don’t need during the summer in Rome.

I should have done a bit more writing, but I did manage a bit of editing … and lots of reading.

I absolutely need to get a bit more often, to relax and recharge, to exercise and write, and, of course, to enjoy good food and wine.

And to spend quality time with family and friends.

Already looking forward to my next escape to the mountains…
