Dreaming of white beaches and warm waves … in the Maldives

This has become a bit of a February tradition for me.

Every February, I like to write some travel post that allows me to dream of warmer climes.

So I’m reaching back to reminisce about a trip almost five years ago to the Indian Ocean paradise of the Maldives.

This has been a mild winter in Rome. I have no reason to pine away for sunshine and tropical vibes. But that’s not stopping me…

Our bungalow was nestled on our own private beach. Each day, we only had to step a few meters from our front porch to dive into the gentle waves of the turquoise Indian Ocean.

The Good Old Days. Back when I used to be taller than my kids …

There were plenty of tennis courts to keep my husband and kids satisfied, while I alternated between reading on the white sand beach and swimming in the crystal clear waters.

Many days started with an early morning jog around the small island, followed by a leisurely breakfast and then snorkeling in various locations around the atoll.

What wasn’t there to love?

One day, I’ll get back. (The kids certainly never tire of asking/begging.)

But until then, I’ll just dust off those memories each February and travel back in my mind.

Instead of those early morning laps at my local pool, I am  really back in those spectacular Indian Ocean waves (at least in my mind’s eye, that is)….

Sorry for the slow reply. While under quarantine I didn’t keep up my blog (travel writing was hard to do under strict quarantine), but as things improve, I’m happy to return to it, and I’m happy these beautiful beaches helped you out during difficult times. Hoping we’ll all get the chance to travel – and dream! – once again.

I hope the same, especially for my family in America.
