Pining away for the Palm Beach resort, Maldives

I don’t know what it is about the first week of February, but whenever it rolls around I see I’m writing travel posts from tropical locales I’ve visited earlier.

Apparently, I’m sick of the cold and want to bask in memories of lounging on warm beaches. This year is no exception.

Last Easter, I was on the gorgeous white beaches and sparkling turquoise waters of the Maldives, pretty Indian Ocean islands south-west of India.

My kids are often remembering back to our week here, at the Palm Beach resort, which offers lots to do for families. I’ve already written about the hydrofoil planes my kids enjoyed so much and our fabulous, little beach bungalow.

There was plenty to do each day.

My husband could play tennis to his heart’s content and my kids gathered each evening out on the full-size football pitch to play soccer with other kids and many of the young men working at the resort. We rode bicycles around the small island and played ping-pong and volleyball.

There were kayaks which were fun to take out to paddle around the coral reef and we went off on some of the snorkeling excursions, which were incredibly beautiful.

We don’t scuba dive, but there was a popular diving center with daily trips. Lots of fishing excursions, too, which my kids did grumble about not taking … but we did eat more than our fair share of fish at the excellent lunches and dinners at the hotel dining room.

I didn’t get to the spa, but it seemed popular with clients.

And of course there was lots of swimming and lazing around reading – heaven.

I admit, this isn’t my normal holiday choice. I generally prefer to travel and have some cultural stimulation, but this complete R&R on a quiet island was exactly what the doctor ordered.

If you want to enjoy beautiful sea, white beaches and plenty of sporting activities, you might enjoy a get-away at the Palm Beach resort. My kids certainly can’t wait to get back.

And on cold February days like today, I’m tempted, too. Turquoise waters and white sand beaches, I’ll be back one day…
