Rock-Rock-Rock- Rockaway Beach – in Queens, New York

Love that when you’re in New York, you can have a fabulous beach day by simply hopping on the subway’s A train.

My New York apartment is on this line, so the trip from Harlem to Queen’s Rockaway Beach is one I do frequently in the summer. It’s a long trip, but well worth it.

Like The Ramones, who were from Queens and sang the catchy Rockaway Beach, I love this beach, easily reachable NY public transport. This same line takes travelers to the JFK airport – connecting from the subway to the Airtrain.

Rockaway Beach, Queens is a pleasant beach destination. The sand is fine, the beach wide and Atlantic waves strong – the perfect escape from urban summer heat.

After the damage following Hurricane Sandy, the boardwalk was rebuilt. I’m usually not here in spring or winter, but this would be a great escape on a sunny day off-season – jogging or biking along the boardwalk, enjoying the bracing ocean air and sunshine.

During my summer visits, I always pack a good book and enjoy reading and swimming in those strong Atlantic waves.

I always try to squeeze in a few beach days during my New York visits… and highly recommend it to others who are enjoying longer visits in the Big Apple.
