 Synopsis

Across a century, four Italian athletes sprint to glory

Like many young boys who witnessed Mussolini’s March on Rome in 1922, Italo is caught up in the renewed sense of national pride. After honing his athletic talents in the Fascist youth movement, he gains  acceptance into the prestigious Fascist Academy of Physical Education, and works tirelessly for track and field victory on an international stage.

In 1970s Rome, Alessandra’s unhappy home life becomes more bearable the first time she steps onto the track, where the rules are clear and those with grit and determination dominate. Alessandra begins her single-minded climb to the pinnacle of elite racing, ensuring no one hinders her path to greatness.

Lorenzo and Lucia are finding it difficult to juggle high school and intensive track training in 2020s Rome. Most of their friends are more interested in social media and parties than the rigid discipline required to make it to nationals.

From Fascism to the terrorism of the Years of Lead and on to a united Europe post-Cold War, Italy’s political and cultural landscape shift dramatically over the course of a century. But the drive for athletic greatness unites four Italian athletes across time.
