Just another day in Paradise – in Bali

It’s that time of year again – February. Cold weather and short days.

Every year at this time, I start to daydream about sunnier climes, and long ago vacations taken to these tropical locales. Then I torture myself relive those special moments by writing about one of those long ago journeys to sunny paradise.

Somehow, this year of lockdown purgatory has made memories of travel even more precious.

So, why not? Decided to recall a long ago trip with my kids, back when they were small, to the Indonesian island of Bali.

We had a great time on this island – spending 5 days in the island’s interior, staying in Ubud.

From there, we enjoyed walks in the rice paddies surrounding our hotel, visiting the monkey jungle, where my younger son learned the valuable lesson to never wear cargo shorts around so many monkeys seeking out hidden bananas, followed by hanging out in the Lotus Cafe. We had a great day outing to visit the Pura Taman Ayun temple and the (less cultural, but super fun!) Zipline adventure.

Another fun outing was the colorful (and educational) Bali bird park.

After all the activity, we were set for five days of relaxation and beach bumming at Nusa Dua, where we loved staying at The Laguna Resort. The interlinked pools and long beaches were just what my energetic kids needed.

Not much culture on this end, but we did make one outing for fishing, where my little anglers caught a tuna fish and groupers. Our hotel cooked it up for dinner and we dined on our fresh catch on the beach.

I don’t mind catching my dinner, just don’t make me cook it when I’m on holiday!

We had a great time on our Bali trip – welcoming people, beautiful temples, fun activities, spectacular jungles and long stretches of white beaches.

Not surprising that this cold and dark February has me thinking back to this tropical paradise and the nice holiday I had with my kids … even if we tried to downplay our positive impressions to my husband who could not get away to join us.

Fellow travellers, we will (eventually) return to new destinations. Won’t we? : )

In the meantime, here’s to memories of long-ago days in paradise.
