Views from the top of the Stubnerkogel, Bad Gastein, Austria

Stubnerkogel, Bad Gastein, AustriaI’ve already written about hiking up the Graukogel – another of the panoramic peaks of beautiful Bad Gastein, Austria – an idyllic Alpine town in Austria’s Salzburg province.

Stubnerkogel (1943 meters above sea level) is the other peak easily reached from Bad Gastein’s center. There are great views from the top – and views out to the Grossgglockner, Austria’s highest peak at 3,798 meters.

My kids also loved going across the Suspension bridge – a 140 meter long bridge with a 28 meter drop and gorgeous views over the mountains.

As everywhere around the region, hiking paths are well marked and there are some pleasant places to stop and sit down to enjoy a delicious raspberry juice while you rest your weary legs.

Berries!

Our hiking progress was slow because we kept stopping for patches of blueberries and raspberries, filling up containers we had in our backpack. Of course, it wasn’t a real problem because during our vacation in the mountains – unlike our hectic schedules back home – we were never in a rush to be anywhere other than where we were.

After dinner that evening, we had a true berry feast with dessert we had picked ourselves.

There were great views over Bad Gastein and the surrounding towns of Gasteiner valley.

Don’t miss a hike to the top of the Stubnerkogel when you are in beautiful Bad Gastein, Austria.
