A spring day in seaside Sperlonga, Italy

Sperlonga, ItalyDuring the Easter weekend, my kids and I had a perfect day in the beautiful beach town of Sperlonga, Italy.

I’ve already written about this pretty little beach town on teh Tirrenian Sea, half-way between Rome and Naples.

See my earlier post about the resort town once the favorite of Emperors.

Hilltop Sperlonga itself is a wonderful, whitewashed medieval town, complete with city walls, gates and winding, steep streets.

My kids and I love wandering aimlessly through the tiny, twisting streets, enjoying the hidden corners of this picture-perfect town.

We had fun wandering down to the wide stretches of golden beach along the gentle bay. in the summer, it’s filled with umbrellas and lounge chairs, but I love it in early spring when it’s only an uninterrupted stretch of sand.

Spaghetti and clams with stunning sea views. Does it get any better than this?

My children were thrilled playing soccer on the beach, with a new soccer buddy they met.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed lazing on the sand under the gentle, spring sun. I even squeezed in some time for my first beach reading of the season.

We also had a great lunch of spaghetti alle vongole and fish out in the gentle spring sunshine.

A great way to kick off the spring season in (still-sleepy) Sperlonga.

Looking forward to getting back during the steamy, summer season … but we loved having the town ‘to ourselves’ for one perfect, spring day.
