Basking in the sun and scenery on Lake Geneva

Lake GenevaLast summer I spent a lot of time in Geneva ferrying my son to camp and back. It was great fun being there with my family for summer weekends, when Geneva is at its best.

One of the things I enjoyed doing with my children was taking the scenic ferry boat on Lake Geneva.

Geneva has built up around the lake, so it’s fun to see the city from the perspective of the water, watching the old town rise up from the water, with St. Pierre easy to pick out on the hilltop.

Lake GenevaWe also had fun steaming past Geneva’s jet d’eau, my kids got a kick out of the fact that the breeze blew the mist in our faces long after we had passed the famous water spout.

And yes, it’s nice to sit back and relax with the sun on your face and admire the beautiful views over the pretty villas and towns on the banks of Switzerland and neighboring France.

It seems like an idyllic – if dreadfully expensive – place to settle down. Perhaps daydreaming is better…

Lake GenevaWe took the boat up to adorable town of Nyon, which I wrote about in an earlier post, and then returned with the (much faster) train. But we loved our time out on Lake Geneva.

If you find yourself in this Swiss city during the summer months, don’t miss out on a trip on its beautiful lake.

Of course now I wish I could make a whirlwind trip to Geneva. I never made it there when I was in Switzerland; I only stayed in Basel a few days. As you say, expensive! And I was a student at the time. Germany and France were more affordable.

Hi Chris. Yes, I remember those student days and preferring countries where I could afford a cup of coffee, but even as a working professional, Switzerland is still expensive today. : ) Still, it’s a beautiful place. BUT I still haven’t seen Basel! Need to get there next time.
