Hiking the Mystic Falls trail in Yellowstone National Park
My family and I had a great time out in Yellowstone National Park last summer. We love hiking and enjoying beautiful nature – and we certainly got our fill of both during our time at Yellowstone.
There are so many trails to explore at Yellowstone – and in our time there we managed to explore quite a few.
One that we enjoyed was the fairly easy Mystic Falls trail. We came here after seeing the famous geyser ‘Old Faithful’.
The kids were excited to go here because it boasts a view over the geyser – and when we hiked it we did indeed see the geyser erupt again, albeit at a distance.
It’s an easy hike up, with some panoramic points. My kids are used to hiking in Italy, so the instructions to stick close together because of the black bears around the park made a real impression on them.
Although, to be fair, they did love the instructions that (for once in their lives) they were free to make as much noise as they wanted. For those (like us) used to hiking in bear-free zones, bears generally stay away from large groups and lots of noise.
Finally found an instance in which two noisy boys are a decided advantage…
We were rewarded for our efforts in reaching the first panoramic point – our arrival coincided with the eruption of Old Faithful – fun to watch from up on high. The Falls itself was also picturesque.
Just like all the trails at Yellowstone, the Mystic Falls trail is well marked.
Surprisingly, most tourists at Yellowstone never even get mud on their hiking boots, so the crowds will never be out with you on these gorgeous trails.
Trapped as I am in my office in these months, I’m envious of myself and this relaxing time we had on our daily hikes in America’s largest national park.
Enjoy your hike up to Mystic Falls – and along any one of hundreds of trails – on your next trip to stunning Yellowstone National Park! I’m missing it already…
Lovely, this is definitely going on the bucket list!
You’ll love it, Susan. The nature and wildlife are amazing, and there are so many trails to explore that you’ll never grow bored.
